Project Cost Range is an independent site with one job: to show you what home projects cost, with the sources behind each number, before you spend real money. These are the rules every page follows.

How guides are made

Editor Mario Bailey researches, checks and reviews every guide before it goes live. Here is the process. We gather current published prices from more than one independent source. We check the range against industry and government sources. We break the price into the parts you actually pay for. Then we list the sources we used. Our data & methodology page explains each step in full.

Accuracy and sources

We give ranges, not a single number that looks more exact than it is, and we link the sources behind each figure. We don't copy text from other sites. We don't publish a number we can't back up. Where a well-known source tracks the same costs, we use it to check our estimates. These include the Remodeling Cost vs. Value Report, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Keeping guides up to date

Material and labor prices change. So every guide shows when it was last updated, and we go back over guides when the data behind them changes. If a number is out of date, we'd rather fix it than leave it.

Corrections

We fix mistakes quickly. If a number doesn't match a real quote you got, email hello@projectcostrange.com. Tell us the project, your area and the price. Real quotes help us make every guide better.

Independence and advertising

We are not a contractor or a lender, and we don't sell your information. The site makes money from ads, and any link to a quote service such as Angi is sponsored and labeled. Ads and partners don't affect the prices we publish or which projects we cover.

Our prices are estimates to help you budget and learn what things cost. They are not quotes, appraisals or guarantees. Before you start a project, get two or three written quotes from licensed local contractors. See our terms of use for details.
