Editorial Standards

Project Cost Range is an independent editorial project with one job: give you an honest, well-sourced picture of what home projects cost before you spend real money. These are the standards we hold every page to.

How content is made

Every guide is researched, cross-checked, and editorially reviewed before it's published. Our process — explained in full on our data & methodology page — is: compile current published cost data from multiple independent sources, cross-check the range against industry and government benchmarks, break the number down into its real components, and cite the specific sources we used.

Accuracy & sourcing

We present ranges rather than false-precision single numbers, and we link the sources behind each figure. We don't copy text from other sites, and we don't publish numbers we can't substantiate. Where authoritative benchmarks exist — such as the Remodeling Cost vs. Value Report, NREL, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the U.S. Census Bureau — we use them to sanity-check our estimates.

Freshness & updates

Material and labor prices move, so every guide shows the date it was last verified, and we revisit guides as the underlying data changes. If a figure is out of date, we'd rather fix it than leave it.

Corrections

We take accuracy seriously and correct errors promptly. If a number doesn't match a real quote you received, email hello@projectcostrange.com with the project, your region, and the price — real-world data makes the whole site better.

Independence & advertising

We are not a contractor, lender, or lead-generation service, and we don't sell your information. Some pages display advertising, which keeps the site free — but advertising never influences the cost figures we report or which projects we cover.
